Well, here is step by step tutorial on how to make Ganesh idol at home with clay or flour. You can use this same method to make Vinayaka idols out of mud, paper or paper mache.

Eco-friendly Ganpati Idol Making at Home
Step 1Take clay or flour to make Ganesh idol. Mix water in it to make a nice dough.
Step 2Make a base and use toothpick to fix the body of Ganesh idol on it.
Step 3Now, add a small part of clay to create Ganpati’s stomach.
Step 4Blend the clay properly.
Step 5Give shape to the body using your fingers.
Step 6Create legs for the idol in similar way.
Step 7Attach the legs to the body.
Decorate Your Ganesh Idol
Adorn the idol with necklace. Make intricate designs over it with a toothpick.
Step 9Use clay sculpting tools to make dhoti.
Step 10In this step, we will add hands to the idol.
Step 11 Place stole on the shoulders.
Step 12The body of Ganpati is ready.
Step 13Create palm for the idol.
Step 14Fix the palms in place.
Step 15Using a toothpick attach the idol’s head.
Add Final Touches to Ganpati Idol
Step 16Add extra clay on the back and seal the gaps. Blend it and to make the back smooth.
Step 17Now, it’s time to design your Ganpati’s trunk.
Step 18Attach the trunk on the head and blend the clay properly.
Step 19Create ears for the idol.
Step 20Attach the ears in place. Use a toothpick to make the design on it.
Step 21Place a turban on Ganpati Bappa’s head. Add tusks on either side of the trunk.
Step 22Give finishing touches to the idol by adding jewellery on to its hands and feet.
Your Ganesh idol is ready. Paint it and decorate it.
